Montblanc 1858 Chronograph Tachymeter – unique piece

This is a one-of-a-kind piece, with a bronze and vintage green aesthetic, capturing the spirit of Montblanc’s past into a new and contemporary way.

This timepiece features the traditional manual monopusher chronograph movement, the calibre MB M16.29.

The 44 mm case is in bronze, and it has been combined, for the first time within Montblanc Collections, with a vintage green dial and a matching green alligator strap – a truly fascinating retro look, considering also the fact that this specific bronze alloy has the property of developing its own, unique, uniform and attractive patina over the years, thus further enriching this unique timepiece.

A strong link to its past, this 1858 Chronograph Tachymeter sports design codes that come straight from the original 1930s Minerva chronograph, and that include large cathedral hands with a cloisonné design filled with beige Super-LumiNova®, luminescent Arabic numerals highlighted by the gradation of the green dial, a vintage shaped crown and a classic minute railway track.

In addition, we find the original Montblanc logo from the 1930s era, with the historical font and emblem of the Mont Blanc mountain in the centre, and the alligator strap (which has a satinated bronze-plated buckle) has been made by the artisans at the Montblanc Pelletteria, in Florence.

The movement of the watch is the traditional manual monopusher chronograph MB M16.29, with a column wheel mechanism, horizontal coupling, chronograph bridge in a “V” shape, a large screwed balance wheel with a frequency of 18,000 semi oscillations per hour and a power reserve of 50 hours.

This in-house chronograph has unparalleled finishings, such as inside angles, Côtes de Genève stripes and circular graining. It also bears red gold coloured components, offering a look that perfectly matches the bronze material and adds to its vintage appeal.

Only Watch, this year reaching its 7th edition, is a biennale international charity auction of unique timepieces that raised 25 million Euros to date. It has the patronage of HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco and it follows the initiative of Luc Pettavino, President of the Association Monégasque contre les Myopathies. All the proceeds collected from the sale of the watches are donated in their entirety to scientific and medical research.

The exclusive watches will start a world tour starting in the charity’s hometown of Monaco, to continue to Asia, the Gulf, the United States, and Europe. before arriving in Geneva for the auction. CC
