A legend as old as the world inspired Graff to design a new and sensual high jewellery collection: Tribal.
Mikael Jansson, the film director, wanted large, blackened-steel sculptures to have a high-contrast background to both the natural landscape of the Tribal collection and Sampaio wearing the jewels.
Tribal: the design inspiration
Deep in the desert, a girl danced around a night fire. Taking some glowing embers, whe threw them high up into the air, where they magically transformed into stars, illuminating the pitch-black night, like diamonds in the sky.
The legend of the girl who created the stars belongs to a mythological past. When the times are dark, as in this last year, humankind tends to go back to a past that appears luminous and positive, to find peace and look at the future with a more positive attitude.
This is a story that speaks to and resonates with us today because it is a tale of beauty, light, reassurance and eternity.
And Tribal, the new high jewellery collection signed by Graff, represents all this.
Tribal: the Collection
Launched last 20th March, in alignment with the Spring Equinox, the Tribal high jewellery collection recalls ancient symbols. These symbols are impressed into our ancestral memory and are evoked by exceptional gems and diamonds.
In high jewellery the visual language is important and it is the privileged medium to communicate an idea, a concept, a vision.
This is why this collection’s jewels speak to us of an ancient dimension that belongs to us anyway. An archaic past we instinctively relate to.
Tribal: the Symbols
From dusk to dawn, the Tribal collection accompanies us on a journey of re-discovery of natural symbols.
The Graff Gateway
This motif links the past to the future, one dimension to another. The jewels’ oval shape is the graphic representation of this connection, and it is the most important visual element of the collection.
Moreover, the round-cut diamonds are set in a very subtle white gold mount, to allow the stones to shine and reveal their full brilliance.
Dawn is that moment of the day when the sun comes back shining on the earth. The jewels of this group represent the light burst that accompanies the rising of the sun.
By mixing white and yellow diamonds, the jewels shed a radiance that communicates energy and power, enhanced by the “cold” fire of best of diamonds.
The necklace featured in the image here below features a total of 374 white and yellow diamonds. At its centre sits a 10.56-carat pear-shape Fancy Vivid yellow diamond. An authentic sunburst.
The radiant effect is also emphasised thanks to the design itself, which develops following abstract lines that radiate outwards.
Following the revolving of the sun, the moon appears in the sky. The jewels propose this natural motif through a stylised half-moon that takes the full centre in the design.
Recalling the full white of our satellite, white diamonds set in white gold design a strong outline, illuminating its every curve.
Yellow diamonds ponctuate the white light, creating more contrast. Graff reinvents the fringe necklace with a cascade of exceptional gems that exude a remarkable colour vibrancy.
From the stars in the sky to the sun illuminating the earth through the dunes of the desert. Graff’s Tribal is a sensual, striking and deeply evoking high jewellery collection that speaks to our deeper self of nature’s profound beauty and its meaningful presence in our lives.
