Lucky Animals is a new, adorable family of clips, which includes today nine models, among which a cat, a lion, a hummingbird and a rabbit, following that animalier tradition that defines the Maison’s style since the 1950s.

In such adorable gallery, these little creatures’ lively attitude win their admirers. They inform an enchanted world with their infinite tenderness. Their onyx gaze appears alert as if they would stand still listening, observing.
Luminous mother-of-pearl and sparkling semi-precious stones reunite in a delicate inlay work, lightly framed by a ‘perlé’ contour that highlights unique details.

The semi-precious stones that build the animals’ bodies – tiger eye, malachite, lapis lazuli, carnelian, onyx – reproduce furs and plumes’ hues with high realism, and contribute to the exquisite look of these fine jewellery creations.

The tiger eye translates the changing play of light of their gilded hairs. The carefully polished, deep black onyx evokes the cat’s shining fur. The lapis lazuli and the malachite exalt the flying hummingbird, while the carnelian recalls the squirrel’s brown and red colours.

On every clip, the stones are inlaid, or layered with mother-of-pearl, thus creating colour combinations specific to each piece. This is how, through different plays of light, each creature becomes unique.
Colour is required to be homogeneous and bright, while the veins (as in the case of the malachite and the tiger eye) are harmoniously spread across the jewel’s body.

Semi-precious stones’ richness has always been inspiring Van Cleef & Arpels.
Very fashionable in the 1960s, semi-precious stones were the answer to the desire of spreading new materials, new colours and shapes. They continued to be regularly used in the Maison’s high and fine jewellery collections, mirroring Nature’s variety – a constant source of creative inspiration.
The choosing of these semi-precious stones and mother-of-pearl requires a particular expertise.
White mother-of-pearl is chosen among the most rear – with no opacity and with an even glow – and the preferred grey mother-of-pearl is the one revealing slight bluish or pinkish tones. The colours’ distribution, as well as the combination of the different elements on one clip, require an exact work of selection and positioning.

The excellence of the artisanal savoir-faire expresses itself also in the cutting of both stones and mother-of-pearl, in this case quite delicate partly because of the jewel’s tiny dimensions. The polishing is exceptionally accurate, to give back these sweet creatures’ softness and splendour in the best possible way.
