Milan’s historic jewellery house, Villa Milano, founded in 1876, has launched its latest creation: the Chevalier collection.
This new line reimagines the classic signet ring—a longstanding emblem of heritage and prestige—blending its noble origins with a bold, contemporary aesthetic. Known for its innovative approach to materials and design, Villa Milano has once again proven its ability to honour tradition while pushing the boundaries of modern jewellery.
The signet ring, or “anello da sigillo,” traces its roots to European nobility, where it served as a mark of family lineage or membership in chivalric orders. Traditionally worn on the pinky or ring finger, it was a symbol of identity and authority, often associated with masculine strength.
With the Chevalier collection, Villa Milano transforms this icon into a unisex statement piece that speaks to both character and sophistication. The result is a series of rings that are striking in scale yet practical for everyday wear, appealing to those who value individuality and elegance.
A Bold Design with a Material Edge
The Chevalier collection stands out for its clean lines and commanding presence, an extension of Villa Milano’s “materica” line. Each ring features a central stone—ranging from classic diamonds and sapphires to vibrant tourmalines and garnets—chosen for its size or colour to create a focal point. These stones are set against innovative materials that define the collection’s modern spirit.
Among the standout choices is titanium, a metal prized for its strength and lightweight feel. Its warm grey hue offers a subtle yet distinctive backdrop that enhances the brilliance of the stones.
Similarly, carbon—borrowed from aerospace and naval industries—brings a deep black finish to the rings, combining durability with a sleek, contemporary look. The contrast between the dark settings and the vivid stones amplifies their luminosity, making each piece visually arresting.
For those drawn to uniqueness, the collection includes options in Damascus steel, a material known for its wavy, organic patterns. Crafted through a meticulous process, no two rings are identical, giving them an almost fingerprint-like individuality.
Meanwhile, gold—available in yellow, pink, and white—receives thoughtful finishes like satin brushing or deliberate scratches, adding texture and depth to the designs.
Craftsmanship at the Heart of Brera
Every ring in the Chevalier collection is brought to life in Villa Milano’s workshop, located in the artistic enclave of Brera on via San Carpoforo, just steps from its boutique. This proximity reflects the brand’s hands-on approach, where skilled artisans—goldsmiths and stone-setters—merge time-honored techniques with forward-thinking innovation. The process is a testament to the Maison’s legacy, passed down through five generations since its founding nearly 150 years ago.
Today, the torch is carried by Alice and Francesca Villa, the fifth generation of the family and the first all-female duo to lead the brand. Raised immersed in the world of jewellery, they bring a fresh perspective while staying true to Villa Milano’s core values: quality, originality, and craftsmanship. Their leadership has cemented the Maison’s reputation not only in Milan but on the global stage, where it’s recognized for its refined taste and technical expertise.
A Symbol Reborn
What sets the Chevalier collection apart is its ability to bridge past and present. Once a marker of status and power, the signet ring now evolves into a versatile piece that reflects the wearer’s personality—be it determination, confidence, or a flair for the unconventional. While rooted in tradition, the collection feels firmly anchored in the future, thanks to its inventive use of materials and its bold yet wearable designs.
Villa Milano’s Chevalier rings are more than jewellery; they’re a conversation between heritage and innovation, crafted for those who appreciate the story behind what they wear. Available at the Brera boutique, this collection invites visitors to explore a legacy that continues to evolve, one ring at a time.
