The iconic Ludo Hexagone bracelet first entered Van Cleef & Arpels’ Collections in 1935.
It consists of an articulated ribbon of small hexagons, usually in yellow gold but sometimes in platinum.
Designed that same year, it was an immediate success and remained in production until around 1950. Its name is a reference to Louis Arpels, who was known to his friends as “Ludo”.
Depending on the model, the hexagons may have a diamond, ruby, sapphire, or emerald at their center, in a star setting. The clasp is made up of a stylized buckle motif, encrusted with gems, and the Ludo set was completed with earclips and a ring of the same design.
During its fifteen year lifetime, the Ludo Hexagone was produced in a multitude of versions. Among the examples preserved in the Van Cleef & Arpels’ Collections are a dazzling platinum model with brilliant and baguette-cut diamonds and this yellow gold bracelet with rubies, whose buckle motif features rubies in Mystery Setting™.
