A 120-jewels sale to appeal Bonhams’ Asian and global clientele.
The headline of the sale is unmistakeably set by a sensational Fancy Coloured Diamond and Diamond dress ring by Cindy Chao, featuring a stunning oval-cut fancy pink-purple diamond weighing 4.23 carats.

Every year more than one hundred and twenty million carats of diamonds are mined, of which only twenty percent are of gem quality to be used in jewellery. Of that, less than 0.001% holds sufficient saturation of colour to be categorised as a ‘fancy coloured diamond’.
Fancy purple and variations of the colour like natural Fancy Pink-Purple and Fancy Pinkish-Purple diamonds are very rare.
No more than a handful have been recorded at auction worldwide within the last twelve years. The cause of colour for purple diamonds is crystal distortion. However, it is believed that the presence of hydrogen may be partly responsible for their hue.
Particularly rare and highly coveted, purple diamonds connote royalty, power and honour.

Mesmerizing Kashmir Sapphires
As for the eye-catching Kashmir sapphires that will be offered at auction, Thompson adds:
“The mines, located high in the Himalayan mountain range in North West India, were only open for a period of approximately 30 years from the late 1880s onwards. Supplies were soon exhausted, making Kashmir sapphires extremely rare.”
Two top lots will be featured, the first one being a 17.33 Carat Sapphire and Diamond ring, mounted by Bulgari, and the second being a 6.96 Kashmir Sapphire, Ruby and Diamond ring.

Spectacular Colombian Emeralds
From deep blue to luscious green, the sale will offer top-class emerald jewels, starting with a 10.02 carat ‘No Oil’ Colombian Emerald and Diamond Ring.

Rare among the rarest: natural pearls
Another significant lot that will be offered at Bonhams Rare Jewels and Jadeite auction in Hong Kong next 27 November is this Natural Pearl and Diamond Necklace, signed by Tiffany & Co, and dated 1910.
The necklace composed of eighty-one graduated round to off-round natural pearls, measuring 10.1-5.1mm, completed by a marquise-cut diamond, weighing 2.97 carats, signed Tiffany & Co., length 62.0cm

“Collectors are increasingly snapping up natural pearls because of their increasing rarity. Really good examples of natural pearls – based on size, uniform shape, lustre and blemish-free skins – do not appear on the market as often as they used to and it is very difficult to find good quality examples such as these. Long-term, they will become more of a rarity and therefore even more highly-prized. These pearls have a lovely cream body colour and a rosé overtone which is highly prized among Asian collectors.” Thomspon remarks.
