Since its first edition in 2003, the Pen of the Year conquered a special place among luxury writing instrument connoisseurs. Each Pen of Year tells of eras, characters, and people that left an indelible mark on history.

Graf von Faber-Castell’s Pen of the Year 2018 edition goes back to the Roman Empire which, starting from the VIII century B.C. extended itself through Europe, Africa, and Asia, by leaving traces still visible today.

White Beauty.

Named “the stone of the Gods” by the Greeks, the statuesque Carrara marble irradiates a mystic aura. In the luxury world, white marble goes with elegance and prestige, to satisfy the highest quality standards.

Graf von Faber-Castell‘s Pen of the Year 2018 Imperium Romanum features this exclusive marble, once a privileged material only used to portray gods and emperors.

Each pen is handmade by the precious gemstones manufacture Stefan. Platinum-plated rings carved with laurel crowns are positioned among the body’s marble segments. The rings symbolise fame and success and confer the pen with its unmistakable elegance.

Another extraordinary detail is the cap, painstakingly carved with the Coliseum’s famous arcades – an everlasting symbol of Rome and of its eternal beauty – and the miniature of a Roman coin (a denarius, an ancient and rare coin dated from the 44 B.C. bearing the Emperor’s effigy).

Black Charm.

The Black Edition marvels with its play of contrasts. The Marquinia black marble, sourced from the region of Biscaglia, in the Basque Country, combines with extreme elegance the black background with intense white veins. It also beautifully blends in with the titanium PVD finish, of an anthracite colour, which confers a genuinely nice iridescence to the object’s surface.
